Quitting Rate Lower Among Smokers Who Can Buy cheap tobacco.

Smokers who had easy access to low-tax discount smokes sold on Indian reservations were less likely to quit - and more likely to relapse when they did - compared to smokers who paid higher prices, Medical Study News reported May 26. The same situation may be observed with cheap smokes online buyers.
Researchers from the Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, N.Y., surveyed 1,548 adults in two New York counties and found that smokers who frequented nearby Indian reservations to buy low-tax discount tobacco or purchased cheap cigarettes in online smokes shops (for example your favorite cheap winstons) were half as likely to try to quit compared to smokers who bought full-price sigarettes. When they did try to quit, the low-tax cheap smokes online buyers were less likely to succeed.
The authors concluded that the low-price cigarettes were a dangerous incentive for smokers purchasing discount Camel cigarettes, cheap kent cigarettes, discount Marlboro cigarettes, Discount parliament cigarettes, discount Salem cigarettes or discount Winston cigarettes, etc in Indian reservations.

Pall Mall cigarettes are produced by R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. They were first introduced by the Butler & Butler Company in 1899. The company tried to position Pall Mall cigarettes as a premium brand for the upper class.

Year 1907 saw Pall Mall brand changing its owner after American Tobacco purchased Butler & Butler. American Tobacco used Pall Mall to try their innovational cigarette design, producing these cigarettes with the 85mm length (now it’s the standard also known as the “king-size”). Later Pall Mall cigarettes were to test the new technology of tobacco stuffing which was meant to reduce the harshness in the throat cigarettes often caused.

Pall Mall was at the peak of the popularity in 1960 when it appeared to be the best selling brand of the USA. The owners invested into design once again and it was obviously the right decision. Pall Mall was the first to introduce the 100mm cigarettes (or the "longs”) which later became a standard as well.

In 1994 the brand changed its owners once again. This time the brand was bought by Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corporation. Design was no longer the priority and the sales immediately diminished. Pall Mall also was one of the few cigarette brands to offer only the unfiltered cigarettes.

In 2004 Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corporation merged with R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. Though in 2001 Pall Mall introduced the filtered version of the cigarettes, both the filtered and the unfiltered varieties are offered these days to Pall Mall aficionados. Outside the USA Pall Mall is manufactured and marketed by British American Tobacco.
